As a hospitalist I get to see how a lot of how stuff operates behind the scenes of a hospital. Many people have no idea what what takes to make everything run smoothly in the hospital. In fact, neither do I, despite my daily experience in a hospital. Still, I must often confront and care for angry patients who think they are the only sick person in the hospital and that the world revolves around them. The folks at GE have come up with an iPhone and iPad application titled Patient Shuffle. It puts you in control of running a hospital and making health care happen while trying to keep everyone's mood in the Happy zone. Playing this application should help patients understand how difficult it can be to make the unpredictable less annoying. You can download the app for free (search for patient shuffle on iTunes). Be careful. It's addictive. I've played it about five times before Mrs Happy cut me off. My best thus far has been nine patient discharges with a medium mood. You can see a couple screen shots of the application below. Give it a shot and let me know what your best result is.
