Mrs Happy and I recently returned from Disney in Orlando were we had a chance to catch Disney's Hollywood Studios light show for 2010. And let me tell you, it was unbelievable. It's called the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights presented by Sylvania and it runs from November 8, 2010 through January 3, 2011.
At first I thought it had something to do with the famous Osbourne family. But then I realized the names aren't spelled the same. The announcer said Jennings Osborne and his family are a regular family out of Arkansas that loved putting up holiday light displays. Since starting with about 100 lights in 1986, the display had grown larger and larger. As every year passed, the number of Christmas lights kept getting bigger and bigger, more and more.
As more and more people came from all over to watch the millions of lights, local residents becamse distressed and asked them to shut it down, even taking legal interventions to make it happen. Enter Disney. Since 1995, the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights has made its home on Disney's MGM/Hollywood Studios, with 80% of the all the four million current lights coming from the original Osborne family residence display.
In this Obsorne Family Spectacle of Lights Show, the lights dance to popular Christmas tunes every 15 minutes on the facade of buildings in Disney's Hollywood Studios while snow falls in the background (I think it's soap). I made an eight minute video containing four songs strung together showing this holiday light show extravaganza. It beats the heck out of the amazing Amish Christmas lights display any day.
And here are a few pictures I snapped with my iPhone from the 2010 Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights show. If you have a chance to make it to Orlando or Hollywood Studios during the Christmas holiday, make sure you don't miss this incredible holiday lights display.
