Hospital Halloween Decorations Offer Therapeutic Nursing Sanity.

A reader sent me a picture of this hospital room with Halloween decorations.  I can see it now:
(This didn't actually happen, but I bet it could have, at least with an Internal Medicine Resident vs a VA Nurse

Patient:  Doctor! Doctor!  I need help!
Happy: What's wrong ma'am?
Patient: I think I'm going crazy. All night long I keep seeing giant spiders attacking me.
Happy: No ma'am. Everything is just fine.  That's just a giant spider Halloween decoration hanging from the ceiling of your hospital room.  I'll go talk to your nurse to find out what's going on.
goes to talk to nurse
Happy:  Why is there a giant Halloween spider decoration hanging above poor old Mrs. Smith's  hospital bed?
Nurse:  We hung it there to make her think she was hallucinating.  Then we treat her "delirium " with large doses of Ativan so she isn't riding her call light every hour.  It's a little trick we learned in nursing school
Happy: I see.  Do you mind if I hang scary Halloween decorations in the nursing station so I can order Ativan for the nurses  for riding the pager too often as well?
