Lifestyle Medicine and Our Modern Day Tuskegee Experiment

A reader sent me to a great article that discusses the power of lifestyle over medical therapies for the treatment of chronic disease. Anyone paying attention to my blog for the last three years knows this as truth. It's all about how you choose to live your life. What we do as physicians is delay death. Your choices have the power to invite life. What's your decision going to be?  With trillions of dollars in government subsidies and unfunded mandates guaranteeing a bankrupt future, we have completely lost focus on the goal.  It's not about insurance.  It's about health.  Health which you have the power to choose.

A while back I did a one day analysis of my hospitalist service.  95% of my patients were either
  • Obese
  • Diabetic
  • A smoker or former smoker
It's not about what we do as physicians.  It's about how you live your life.   Get off your couch and start moving, quite smoking and live.
