How Do You Ask An ER Doctor To Do A Pelvic Exam?

So I was asked by the ER doctor to admit a patient with an unexplained rash and other unstable vital signs.    During my interview of the patient, she made it known to me that she has been having painful intercourse and vaginal bleeding.  That sounds concerning in my book.  So I asked the ER doctor to do a pelvic exam on her and check for gonorrhea, which can sometimes cause a follicular rash.

How do you ask an ER doctor to do a pelvic exam?   Well, you ask really nicely.  Asking an ER doctor to do a pelvic exam on your patient is equivalent to them asking the hospitalist to admit a patient to the adult Humane Society.   It just plain sucks. Thank you doctor for a job well done.

And before you ask, I haven't done a pelvic exam in seven years and have no plans to ever do one again.  It's right up there with one of the main reasons I became a hospitalist.  No more pelvic exams.  Ever.
