I've done CPR on some pretty frail elderly. I can't say I've ever seen it done one handed.

From the article you linked to, it appeared that MJ's doctor put one hand behind MJ's back to provide support (like a back board) and used his other hand for compressions. I would think that would be appropriate if MJ was frail enough and the doctor was afraid of fracturing ribs during compressions. This is how compressions are done on pediatric patients. But, I work neonatal ICU, and we do compressions with our thumbs or two fingers. Different world altogether.
