It's the doctor's magazine and he most likely puts it out in the waiting room for a bit before he takes it home so he can write it off. Since none of his patients are in any shape to read it most likely stays right there.
Pft. I'd take the mag home without asking, then return it next week anyway. Or simply photocopy the articles at the library, and return it later that day if possible. Why deal with a snippy receptionist?
