Here's a picture of a hospital bed tent for agitated patients. I haven't had a camping patient in a long time. Come to think of it, I don't even know when it's indicated. If a nurse calls asking me for an order to go camping in one of these bed restraint systems, there must be a good reason. The whole thing just seems to Hannibalesque.

our hospital just got one of these. I avoided the inservice. Looks scary. Does it help prevent "patient falls" in your experience so far?
ReplyDeleteFor all of us non-medical folks, why is the patient in a tent? Is it a quarantine against spread of infectious agents?

Ahhh...tent beds. Kind of cozy in a way. We use them for folks who continually try to get out of bed despite everything else that we have tried to do to keep them safe. Our rehab unit uses them for TBI patients, for much the same reason. It allows them to have some freedom and not be physically restrained by the like of wrist/vest restraints, more for safety than anything.
