6 Outbursts:

  1. NO EXCUSES for shaking the baby....I hate these articles that want to link child abuse and a insert increased stressor here...I don't think it's sad I think it's weak and that parent is a ticking time bomb..if you don't have stress you're dead. Ican say this a victim of child abuse who grew up and lived for many years in a stressful world that I finaly extricated myself and I never laid a hand on my children.

  2. It's sad that the people one of the richest countries in the world are left to fend for themselves. It's a persisting problem in US; the economic stress just exasperates the problem.

It's equally said that people are out-of-their-minds enough to shake their babies out of exasperation.

I wonder if it is possible to achieve the same level of productivity without driving people to the wall like that. OR is this an EQ issue that varies from people to people?

  3. Maybe there are more cases of child abuse on US related to depresed economy, i wont even argue that, but brain damage for merely shaking, Come on, spine injury is another thing, but you need to use a lot of energy to produce such harm. to cause brain damage you need a high ammount of energy directly trough the head, not by shaking. usually caused by falls, car accidents, direct hits from tool, once again not shaking.

  4. I can see that Alexy must not be in pediatrics or trauma. I was also grimly amused by the comments posted about the article that tries to blame it on vaccination. No, I am sorry to say that this syndrome is real and, no matter if related to poor temper or ignorance, is an egregious crime that largely results in death or a crippled lifetime for the child.

  5. Totally agree with Anon 455--the comments from idiots on the original article are blood-chilling to me. How many stupid people are out there.....oh, nevermind.....we all know they are Legion.

  6. This is sooo very sad. It reminds me of when my "baby" (he's 17 now!) was tiny...i couldn't get enough of holding him and cuddling him and just being with him....i remember the pediatrician subtley warning me about shaking the baby at the 6 week appointment and it basically just went over me...it was so unimaginable. i was/am by n o means a perfect mom, but this terribly sad article just made me have to say something, anything...and we were (and are not) by a n y means well off, but that's not baby's fault...
i think i need an infant to hold... :)
