Xigris Being Scrutinized

Xigris, a horribly expensive drug infusion came out early this decade as a wonder drug for sepsis. Almost $10,000 a dose it was not to be thrown around like a bag of saline.

Then Xigris made it into the national guidelines for surviving sepsis.  Than word came out that major conflicts of interest were involved in the addition of Xigris to national guidelines.  And the strength of its recommendation was downgraded  Now the FDA has an early communication about serious safety concerns about bleeding in patients at risk of bleeding.
Just about every sever septic patient I know is at risk for bleeding (thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, ulcers, colitis, DIC, renal failure) You name it. I think this drug is on its way out the door.
