Weekendalist? Really? Seriously?

I've never met this rare breed, yet:
Hospitalists were followed by medical intensivists, proceduralists, nocturnalists, and weekendalists,

3 Outbursts:

  1. I was offered a job as a weekendist. Problem is, they wanted 5pm Friday until 7am Monday. Continuously. I declined. I would spend my 4.5 days off dreading the next cycle.

  2. I knew an academic weekendist who rounded every Sat and Sunday. She was good at it, too.

Said that it allowed her to be with her kids during the weekdays and her husband could provide child care during the weekends.

Not for me, but I sure liked it when she covered my patients on Sat and Sun.

She used to tell me "The trick to the hospitalist thing is to mold it into the job you want." There is certain wisdom in that logic.

  3. I jokingly call myself this. Had no idea people actually used the term. Works out for me as my family just likes to chill out at home weekends. Unfortunately means rounding on 20 - 25 patients, and dealing with the ER every time I come to work. (my group has 6 people on weekdays and 3 on weekends...)
