I thought you would find this interesting in regards to your blogs about government workers, etc. . I haven’t received any ground mail for TWO days. I couldn’t figure out why. I didn’t get my mail two weeks ago for one day too. The mail man left a standard note saying the 15 feet before and after the mailbox needed to be cleared to the curb, not snowed in. So I shoveled and the mail resumed. Then, all of the sudden, no mail the last two days. I figured it was because “up to the curb” was not cleared.
You would think that this mail man had a point. That he couldn't deliver the mail if he couldn't get to the box. Right? Of course, you would think that was reasonable. But it couldn't be that easy. Continuing on...
But this is an ice block 4 inches thick from the recent snow and clearing snow. I would need a chisel to get rid of it. I suppose when the government pays you, there’s not incentive to go “out of your way.” Hide behind the regulations. The answer is simply not to deliver the mail. I attached two pictures of the mailbox. Do you think I’m being unreasonable to expect my mail be delivered, especially when I’m trying to get my taxes done and need my W2 form?
?

You want federalized health care? A system where all your docs and nurses are federalized? I have worked in that environment. You do not want to be a patient in that system. Be prepared for this level of arrogance and stupidity. Try and fire that mailman because he isn't doing his job? Good luck. Be careful what you wish for America. This is just pathetic. I would be embarrassed to show up to work with this attitude. This is the government mentality, pure and simple.

There’s no incentive to go “out of your way” because if nearly every person didn't clear the path to the mailbox, the mailman would never be able to get the mail to everyone, even the few who had cleared the way.
ReplyDeleteI think your reader is being unreasonable to expect the mail to be delivered when he was clearly told what is expected of the path and not clearing it.
If the delivery is so bad purchase a PO box, or don't use their services and utilize FedEx. You talk about personal responsibility a lot. This is when it should be used. Just as you aren't your patients' babysitter, the mailman isn't your reader's snowplowman or ice chipper.
that's one helluva mailbox...looks like it could survive a nuclear holocaust.
ReplyDelete"this is an ice block 4 inches thick from the recent snow and plow activity. I would need a chisel to get rid of it."
ReplyDeleteIce can be clear, and I'd say is more dangerous than snow. Your reader made it sound as if he cleared the snow but knowingly didn't clear the ice.
I bet Kevin Costner could deliver that mail.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't blame that particular postman. According to his creed he only had to deliver through snow, rain, heat, and/or night gloom. Ice is optional and left to the discrection of the individual mail carrier.
In response to the first anonymous:
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Dr ER, I have 5 patients waiting to be admitted. I'm not going to "go out of my way" to see your patient with hypotensive shock. I "will never be able to get" to everyone because your patient is too complicated and will take me too long. I just won't come down to see your patient. Sorry Dr ER. It's not my problem.
Now doesn't that attitude sound ridiculous. As a physician, I come to expect the unexpected and deal with it and move on. I do the job I am trained for knowing very well what I signed up for. You have to be flexible and work around the daily unexpected. Not everything will be handed to you on a platter. Have pride in your work.
If you look at the picture, there are tire tracks leading right up to the mailbox. Doesn't look like the ice is a deal breaker to me. And since the mail personal don't get out of their car, it shouldn't be an issue, unless the tires are bald.
Sheesh, must have been a slow news day.
the question is, can you sue your mailman for millions?
ReplyDeleteThe homeowner is the one with the entitlement mentality. I say get off your lazy butt and clean the curb. Shovel, pick ax, and salt that shit.
ReplyDeleteOr move somewhere warmer.
Rules are there for a reason.
I can see how a mail truck can slip and plow over his mailbox, and then he'd whine and SUE over it.
Worse case scenario, the mailman could slip on foot and end up on workman's comp (and MY tax dollars) for life.
This isn't a government issue because FedEx, a PRIVATE for profit company, has run into the same issues THOUSANDS of times. They no longer go up driveways because it probably costed them MILLIONS.
What do you think of this?

Happy:
ReplyDeleteThe Post Service is NOT A FEDERAL AGENCY! It is controlled highly by the feds, but it is not a part of government.
