I Want My Four Dollars

I argued with some here about the benefit of $4 Walmart drugs.

I got chastised for supporting a program that would kill off the competition.

My response was simply. The market will determine what the people want.

So here, I present you with

THE COMPETITION.

They chose not to roll over and die in the face of a fierce market place. They chose to rise above and fight back, like markets do to survive.

Who benefits?

The consumer. Because now they have many places to shop for cheap drugs.

And no less than 3 other pharmacy selling facilities in town have joined the $4 club since the Walmart initiative that has saved more than one billion dollars for consumers.

Competition is always good. If you don't like the competition, it's time to find another way to make a living.

I want my $4.

The same phenomenon has occured in my community.

I previously was practicing in a community health center serving an overwhelmingly low-income uninsured population and would as a matter of practice write cheap generics if possible and tell my patients to get them filled at Wally World.

As you have observed in your community, several other pharmacies in my area have amazingly lowered their prices for generics to $4 as well.

Now these patients have more choice.

I have since left the Community Health Center and now have mostly insured patients.

I still write cheap generics whenever possible and refer my patients the pharmacies with the cheapest prices for these. I figure just because it is an insurance company or medicare/caid paying is no reason to suddenly quit being frugal.

Anyway, I totally agree with you. Free market competition works!
